They say: SuperMartXé - The biggest success of Madrid Pride and most talked about party in Ibiza this summer is launching in London this month
As the winter cools down, the Coronet Theatre heats up with its new monthly Saturday night extravaganza that is guaranteed to turn heads and captivate an eclectic party audience.
Direct from their summer residency at no other than ‘the biggest club in the world’ Privilege Ibiza, this new Madrid born party brand, SuperMartXé, described as ‘glamorous, stylish and exuberant’ by DJ Mag Ibiza, takes stage in the most lavishly underused venue in South London.
‘It’s kind of fun to do the impossible’ (Walt Disney) - Supermartxé London has committed to keeping the brand’s party philosophy at heart, and with a venue capacity of 2,000 +, a giant stage predestined to host mind blowing productions, a guest DJ no other than Spanish favourite Juanjo Martin plus London’s own DJ Steve Pitron, this cutting-edge and fresh clubbing creation Ibiza-style dares to impress and is set to take London by storm.
The red carpet rolls out on the 29th of November promising an impressive night of glamour, diversity, and an engaging production equal to that of Ibiza nightclubs. The launch of the event will be crowned by a live performance by House Diva Rebeka Brown singing her summer anthems “Real Things” and “Sun Rising Up.”
Taking the London clubbing experience to another level, this event will attract a metro-sexual mix of the most glamorous girls and stunning boys in town. Expect London’s biggest party production of 2008.

hmmmmm
That doesn't make it right that people like me an my group of 30 friends bought tickets in advance for £25 and had to queue 2.5 hours before being able to get into the venue......
The '' promoter '' Logan was swaning around the venue but failed to sort things out for his customers.
I will be defiantly not coming back in a hurry.
Btw Did I not see the ''SUPERSIZED'' word before in the matinee NYD after-hour advertising and press releases which came out 2 weeks ago ???

“THE CORONET COMES OUT OF THE CLOSET”
Happy to have welcomed such a diverse and dynamic crowd to Elephant & Castle, The Coronet comes out of the cloakroom to extend a sincere apology for the lacking coat checking system experienced at the Launch. In order to ensure the audience’s trust, The Coronet Theatre is giving the first 500 costumers a free coat check at the next SUPERMARTXE LONDON event on January 3rd.

mcdermos,
It's their second time in London. After they were one of the resident nights at Heaven Ibiza in 2007, they came to Heaven London for a one-off on a Friday.
This is a connection which might explain why they have now turned up at the Coronet.
Because who has an interest in the Coronet? Goodness me! It's Jeremy Millins of Pure who having just sold Heaven appears to have simply started to fill the gap he created by installing one of his previous bookings in another venue in which he has an interest.
See this link from 2003.

So, don't be suprised if more of this stuff suddenly starts to pop up down at this previously under-used asset down there at the Elephant.

We've all seen worse everywhere. Remember the opening night of Action? The queues for the coatcheck were horrendous, but that went on to become one of the greatest club nights in London. And the last weekly DTPM at Fabric? Some people queued for two hours to get in, and the queue for the coat check when the club shut was even worse, but that was because the night succeeded all expectations. The Cross? Turnmills? Ministry? There's not a single venue, party or night out in London which hasn't experienced some, or all, of the pitfalls which bedeviled Supermartxe's first night at the Coronet, but leaving those aside, all the feedback is that the party itself was fantastic. Hopefully, they'll have ironed out all these kinks in time for the next event.

OK the queues took forever, the toilets could have been better.. but it wasn't that bad. The dancefloor was heaving... It was their first night in London - give them some slack. Christ - we've all seen worse in Fire.

Forget the music, DJs and production, club events live or die by the queues for the entrance, coatcheck and toilets and based on Saturday night's party, SuperMartXe is on shaky ground.
Thankfully I arrived early and avoided the worst of the queues but I had friends that arrived after 12 who queued for well over an hour in the coat check and still couldn't get their coats put away. In the end they gave up and danced with them around their waists!
The toilets were also a disgrace. By halfway through the night they were filthy and flooded with water making the ones at Fire seem glamorous in comparison. I think I'd rather have regulated toilets that were kept clean and tidy any day!
While the size of the venue is impressive, it really needs some TLC. Some lighting on all those steps going to and from the bar and dancefloor really wouldn't be too much to ask would it?
It will be really interesting to see if there will be such a buzz about the next SuperMartXe party in London (on Sat 3rd Jan). If the event is to have any future in London, everyone involved really needs to get their act together next time.

If you are a promoter, every part of your evening is your responsibility. You dont go swanning around enjoying yourself, you make sure that all the punters who put their confidence and money in you is worth your respect. Turning a blind eye does not wash with anyone.

Let's also not forget that the promoters are of Supermartxe London are locals, not Spanish.
While the coat check is ultimately the venue's responsibilty, I do think it's fair to put some of the blame on the event organisers. They should have cottoned on to what was going on and done something about it. Whether that means getting in the coatcheck themselves or assigning some of those ridiculous dancers to do the job, it should have been looked after.

Its hardly the promotors fault, they dont run the coatcheck/security/office etc. This has happened at every event held at the Coronet including the Duckie Gay shame events. I found the staff anf bar staff just didnt care and were not interested in the problem.

I went and totally agree that it was a pretty poor night. The venue is really shabby. We queued for nearly 40 mins to get in and then for another 90 minutes to put our coats in. My friend had her iPod and phone stolen and she just sent me this "i've just called the coronet.. apparently the reason for the cloakroom drama was that they shut the upstairs cloak for a press conference so that's why the downstairs got full quickly.. apparently there have been a lot of complaints.. the guy at the office said it was the spanish organisers..."

A group of us went and had the same issues, we had tickets but it was very confusing get in in, 40 minutes later we then hit the coat check q! 1 hour 20 minutes we got on the dancefloor.... just not worth the money, so I wouldn't bother with it again. London is worth more than this! you'd think a brand could get it right!

Well pandolph, i have been to many a gay club in my time but i was not there last night ! On a more serious note - you say you enjoyed unregulated toilets- Are the owners mad? have they never hosted a gay club before ? Its a green light to allow gays do what only they know how to do best- snort, swallow and inject whatever chemical substance they can lay their hands on. Its a sad fact of gay life that we appear incapable of enjoying ourselves unless we completely lose ourselves to drugged up euphoria. - Anyway - i am digressing here- The coat check fiasco reminds me of the mega joint club venture at SE1 a few years ago. A simple badly managed system can be the kiss of death for a club. I will never forget Steve Elliot experiencing something similar at one of his Salvation venues. He personally went up and down the queue apologising and then went behind the counter and sorted the mess out himself- Now theres a man who knows how to promote a club night !

I have never like The Coronet, i remember the hideos Victor Calderone event these a couple of years ago.
So we decided to miss the first SuperMartXé, and save ourselves for Rapido next week as KOKO is a much nicer venue.
I will probably try SuperMartXé another time, those it sounds like the old problems with The Coronet are still around!

i'm sorry... i'll stop in a minute.
or maybe the coronet looked like this:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_xqw8uaovmM
i can't help myself when there are clips like this to look at.
the performer in this driving 3000 people crazy is called Diva Houston! and she is of the caliber of performer sadly lacking in many clubs.
look how she made 3000 people scream!

I wasn't at Supermarxte in London but I was in Madrid for Orgullo 2008 (pride).
Here is a youtube clip of Supermarxte from Madrid.
Supermarxte in La Rivera in Madrid is a sight worth seeing!!
Did The Coronet look anything like this?

I just don't understand it. the coronet should be used to big crowds but that was the worst coat check I have ever experienced.. they should call the party SuperQueue. 20 minutes outside to get in, then about an hour to check the bloody coat! And another half hour at the end of the night to get it back.
The party itself was fun because it was new and people seemed excited by it, but it's not a patch on a proper Spanish Supermartxe.. the difference in production quality is huge. a few supermartxe signs and a handful of hired dancers don't really cut it.
I loved the venue because of it's size but a lot of people were moaning about it.. drinks were cheap, £3.50 for a can of kronnenberg, which is a real joy compared to Fire's £8.50 for a double.
some of the music was fantastic. whoever was playing the early set around 1AMish was great.. sounded like Pagano a bit. everything I heard in the second room was lovely. Juanjo Martin was a bit cheesy and pedestrian. Steve Pitron was Steve Pitron. Predictable. Rebeka Brown's PA was great because the girl has such fabulous stage presence and really can sing. i never saw or heard therese. (thankfully)
everyone who has ever been to a gay club in London was there. it'll be interesting to see if they can pull the same huge crowds month after month.
oh and it was a thrill to have completely unregulated toilets for a change.

I had huge problems queuing at this venue before but didn't say as I didn't want to be negative about this event before it happened.
I went to a Secret Sundaze at the Coronet once and had nightmare queue in rain to get in (with ticket) and then another huge huge queue for cloakroom.
How was the music?
Did Juanjo Martin play a good set?
Surely Steve Pitron was really happy not to be playing at Fire.

Is that really the best london could do, outragious coat check and promoters and management all burying their head in the sand. The dancers were tired and badly styled.
a good night, but really someone needs to tell Logan where to get off !! Swanning around the club, not actually doing anything that may help the poor people who have paid £25 a ticket and spent all night in a badly run coat check queue !!
